PALMAR - BANANA EXPORTER IN 2009
2009 became yet another year during which the main attention of Principals and top managers of CORPORACION PALMAR was concentrated to three basic directions: construction of a perfect internal structure, further development of an agricultural and industrial base of the Company and development of external commercial structures, mainly in European Economic Community countries.
According to public data by ECUADORIAN ASSOCIATION OF BANANA EXPORTERS (A.E.B.E.), the total volume of bananas exported in the first semester of 2009 by means of three basic export structures of the CORPORACION PALMAR – CIPAL S.A., PRETTY LIZA FRUIT S.A. and TRADEPALM S.A. have made about 7,020 thousand boxes 22XU.
As before, CORPORACION PALMAR confidently takes its place among the ten largest banana producing and exporting companies of ECUADOR, which practically means – OF THE WORLD.
We are proud to keep our legal place in the row of the most recognized leaders of world banana export - companies NOBOA, DOLE, REYBANPACK, BONANZA FRUIT and DEL MONTE.
All export volume of CORPORACION PALMAR was divided in equal shares between two basic export directions:
1. EUROPEAN ECONOMIC COMMUNITY 3,618 thousand boxes 52 %
2. RUSSIAN FEDERATION 3,402 thousand boxes 48 %
Such distribution in volumes can be considered as the most rational in sense of stability of trade and decrease in commercial risks.
CORPORACION PALMAR is a unique independent Ecuadorian banana exporter, which since 2001 was selling more than 4.5 million boxes of bananas a year in the markets of the European Union.
It is important to note that PALMAR was the largest independent supplier to Europe during the period of the licenses regime, and remains the same after 2005, under the conditions of the free European banana market.
In 2008 the CORPORATION has incorporated a permanent COMMERCIAL REPRESENTATION in France, in order to encourage development of PALMAR’s commercial presence in the Western Europe. Beside that non-commercial structure, we have created in 2009 a new commercial structure - GLOBAL FRESH TRADING S.A.S., which would start its activities in France from October 2009.
The global economical crisis that brought a lot of problems to several big banana operators over the world, did not affect at all PALMAR's producing and commercial activities. Such circumstance is mainly related to the fact that our company does not depend of external financing. Just the contrary - our economical situation became even better. That paradox could be explained by happy combination of several characteristics, which make difference between PALMAR GROUP and other international banana operators:
1. We are working simultaneously at European and Russian markets.
2. We are supported by our own production facilities doing about 100,000 boxes of fruit a week.
3. We count with our direct relationship with selected group of contractual growers fully certified by GLOBALGAP, which were continuously working with us for more than ten years.
4. We produce and export with our own money and we are absolutely independent of external financing.
The basic commercial structures of PALMAR – CIPAL (FRUITSTYLELIFE CIA LTDA), PRETTY LIZA FRUIT S.A. and TRADEPALM S.A. and their branches in the various countries - provide permanent jobs to about 120 employees.
